The Australian Capital Territory is welcoming self-employed and business owners to boost its economy. Following its own tradition, the territory benefits applicants already living in the region for some time. Here’s how the nomination for Canberra has changed:

Small Business Owner

  • You must be able to claim Canberra Matrix points in the Small Business Owner Category.
  • You MUST sign a statutory declaration confirming the details of your ACT Small Business activity.


Self-employed and not claiming Matrix points as a Small Business Owner:

  • You may work for an employer and/or be self-employed.
  • You MUST prove at least 12 months of ACT business activity on your ABN at the date of Matrix submission.
  • For ACT 491 Nomination - Your total (taxable) income must be at least $520 per week for each week of the employment period claimed.
  • For ACT 190 Nomination - Your total (taxable) income must be at least $1000 per week for each week of the employment period claimed.
  • You MUST sign a statutory declaration confirming your ABN, location of ACT business, the start date of ACT business activity, duties and annual income.
