If you studied Business Administration (BA) due to the variety of career opportunities this qualification presents, you’re not alone! This popular course is chosen by students all over the world and has no limits to where it leads. So, what exactly are the opportunities that exist in Australia for BA graduates and professionals? Which PR pathways can be followed with these skills in your briefcase?
Let’s get down to business and find out!
Make your work, work for you
There are a number of factors that can work for or against you when it comes to skilled migration. The broadness of business administration allows you to mix and match previous or current experience and additional qualifications to create your own definition of your expertise. Your location in Australia also matters - an appropriate occupation may be on one state’s list, and not on another.
A huge range of business skills, both general and specific, can be developed when one studies and works in the field of BA. The first step is to work out which skills you have. Are you confident in the area of finance, marketing, human resources, operations, or day-to-day general office admin? Do you have formal experience in just one specific area, or are you able to adapt to a variety of roles?
There are pathways to PR for all types of skilled business professionals, but usually having a BA degree on its own is not enough. If you have relevant work experience in your home country, but can’t find the exact same job on an occupation list, considering related occupations is a good place to start (confused? Read our Hidden Occupations blog post). If you’ve recently graduated and aren’t sure which direction to head, knowing the PR possibilities of different positions can help guide you.
You won’t go out of business: the opportunities are endless
Depending on your experience, interests, and skills, there are unlimited options for you to pursue. But often, the job titles used on occupation lists lead immigrants to miss a whole lot of potential positions. By reading the descriptions, you’ll learn a lot more about the required skills for each occupation and likely find that you’re qualified for jobs you’ve never even heard of!
The following list showcases a handful of current in-demand occupations suited to those with a background in BA. Each has a brief description, so you can get an idea of the variety of opportunities available!
Contract Administrator: Prepare, interpret, maintain, review and negotiate variations to contracts, on behalf of an organisation.
Financial Investment Adviser: Develop and implement financial plans for individuals and organisations. Advise on investment strategies and their taxation implications, securities, insurance, pension plans and real estate.

Program or Project Administrator: Plan and undertake administration of organisational programs, special projects and support services.
